The FIRE Movement Sucks, Here’s Why…
The FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement is like dropshipping or FOREX trading, for uncool nerds. It’s a marketing gimmick used to sell books and generate ad revenue. Instead of hopping out of Lamborghinis or partying with swimsuit models, the hook here is that you can shuffle around your house all-day while living off your modest index fund portfolio.
Today’s article lays out two major issues with FIRE, as well as a far superior alternative to this movement.
FIRE Is A Gimmick
YouTube is filled with videos about people who “retired” in their late 20’s or early 30’s. These people “were tired of the corporate grind,” saved up their money, and then achieved financial freedom at an unusually young age.
Now, they’re running a podcast or selling books to teach you how you can retire early too.
And that’s the issue.
It’s no different than the Instagram billionaire who’ll sell you the secrets to wealth.
Most of the FIRE people are selling books and courses because it’s realistically impossible to retire off low-yield index funds unless you have several million dollars.
