Most Of Your Supporters Are Silent
Online feedback is pointless.
I have a YouTube channel that sells merch. A sticker. It costs $5.
There are only two comments I ever receive.
The first are people complaining. “Oh, another greedy YouTuber selling something. What happened to pure entertainment? To artistic integrity?”
The other comment?
Endless questions crammed into a single paragraph.
“Hi, I’m curious about buying your sticker. Can you tell me what material it is made from? And is it shipped by UPS? Or FedEx? Or the U.S. Post Office? Also, what is the return policy?”
Neither of these people ever buy anything.
Meanwhile, I regularly get sales from viewers I’ve never interacted with. People I’d love to say “Thank you” to. But can’t. Because they’re silent supporters.
As a content creator, much of your success hinges on “The Dog That Didn’t Bark.”
If you are a musician, your audience are people who like your songs.
Many of these people will listen to your tracks on repeat, day after day.
And they’ll never say a word to you about it.
Your audience is not some random guy in the YouTube comments section screaming about…
