Over 17 U.S. food processing plants have caught on fire in the past year.

On April 11, New Hampshire’s East Conway Beef and Pork burned for over 16 hours. In February, an explosion at Oregon based Shearer’s Foods injured 7 people. And three days ago, a Perdue Farms facility caught on fire.

OnionBusiness, a news service dedicated to onion farming and not associated with the famous Onion News satire site, has a good summery of the eight food processor accidents and fires (not including Perdue Farms) that have happened between March 16th and April 18th:

That’s a large number of accidents in a short amount of time.

And to the surprise of no one, this has attracted a lot of conspiracy theorists.
