This article starts with a lie.

There is no such thing as a zero credit score. But it is possible to have no credit score, or no credit history. I know, because I didn’t have either for a very long time.

Then, I decided to get serious about earning rewards and making money off my purchases. So I started climbing the credit ladder. And in the course of one year I went from no credit to good credit. This article shows you how to do the same.

Getting good credit opens the door for many great cards and rewards programs. Having a credit score over 720 allows you to sign up for a lot of wonderful credit cards from the likes of Chase, Citi Bank, Capital One, and American Express. Get to this stage and you’re earning cash back, airline miles, and juicy sign-up bonuses.

You also have a level of payment protection that cash or debit cards just don’t offer.

Cancelling flights and getting product refunds is much easier when you book or buy something with credit. I would personally recommend getting a card just so that you have this type of protection when booking vacations or shopping online.

Now that you know the benefits of good credit, here’s how you go from 0 to 725+ in one year.
