How I Spent $858 In June, While Living On The Beach And Going To Fancy Restaurants

I spent less than $1,000 this month. All while living in a seaside city. And doing whatever I wanted every single day.

I went swimming with sea turtles.

Took a mini-vacation to a nearby town.

And ate at some nice restaurants.

The total cost?

$858.

In today’s article, I want to explain how this is possible.

1. Don’t Focus On Saving Money

This will sound counter-intuitive, but…

I’ve never kept a budget. Or tracked my spending.

Penny-pinching frugality advice is stupid. It rarely considers quality of life, and is detrimental to personal happiness.

When you only focus on saving money, you ultimately end up overspending. Think of a budget airline offering $1 flights. Things initially look cheaper so you’ll buy.

But once you’re hooked, the company starts nickel and diming you.

$10 to print your boarding pass. $16 for a seat. $60 to bring a carry-on bag. The hidden costs add-up. And pretty soon, you’re paying more than you would have if you just flew on a normal airline.
