The porkers are out to pasture on this one. But, last Friday, insurance company Old Republic International Corporation ($ORI) issued a $2 per share special dividend.

Old Republic International Corporation is one of those boring businesses that never makes headlines or gets much attention.

But it consistently rewards its shareholders.

An investor who bought Old Republic stock in February, 2024, would have paid $29. And since February, that same investor would have collected $3.06 in dividends — including the special payout!

Translated to yield on cost, Old Republic paid a 10% starting dividend.

I’ve discussed Old Republic stock in the past. This company doesn’t pay a special dividend every year. But when it does issue special payouts, investors often earn a 10–12% yield on their initial investment.

Variable dividends are… variable.

But Old Republic’s fixed dividend and long-term stock performance are enough to make this company a compelling buy.

Old Republic trades at a price to earnings ratio of 12.28 and currently yields a 3.08% starting dividend — which is only calculated off the company’s fixed, quarterly payouts.
