Are Prestige Credit Cards A Compliment Magnet?

In Brent Easton Ellis’s 1991 book, American Psycho, high-class sociopath Patrick Bateman has a panic attack when a waitress fails to fails to compliment his American Express Gold Card.

This sends Bateman into a fugue, and he ends up eating cold canned ham while hiding in an alleyway.

If you are considering a high-end credit card for the “prestige” or “compliment factor,” get a can opener now. Because 99.9% of people are never going to notice.

I bring this up because a lot of guys (and it is almost exclusively men) believe that using an upper-level American Express or Chase card will impress people.

Many credit card reviewers on YouTube will specifically say things like:

If you’re out with friends or on a date, and you use this card, everyone will notice. And you’ll get a lot of compliments.

Likewise, there are a lot of men on Twitter and Instagram who will not-so-subtly post a picture of their AMEX card when they’re at a club or restaurant.

Prestige credit cards are not compliment magnets.

And this shouldn’t be a deciding factor in whether or not you get one.
