A Tale Of Three Johnsons

Captain Marvel is a female superhero from Marvel Comics. Not to be confused with Captain Marvel, the male DC Comics superhero. Or Ms. Marvel, who’s a different female hero also created by Marvel Comics. And of course, you never want to get Captain Marvel (the DC one) confused with Marvelman — because Marvelman is a gritty Alan Moore comic with shadowy government conspiracies and superheroes committing mass-murder.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s move on and talk about three separate companies that are all named “Johnson.”

1. Johnson Controls International ($JCI)

The arch-enemy of sitcom dads everywhere, Johnson Controls makes thermostats and other HVAC equipment.

The company began in 1883, when university professor Warren S. Johnson invented the first electric thermostat. And since then, Johnson Controls has grown into an internationally diversified conglomerate worth over $45 billion.

Johnson Controls has paid a dividend every year since 1887.

And, the stock has compounded at an average annual total return of 11.02% over the past 10 years.
